We believe that a woman’s sexuality stems from within, rather than being primarily responsive to another person and their desire; as such, it is something we can take responsibility for, and also enjoy in itself as well as with a lover.

From our own research as a couple and individually, we have come up with five areas that we think women of all sexual orientations can usefully focus on to develop more joyful and satisfying sexual lives. These are:

  • Attention: prioritising our sexuality, giving it time, focusing on our intentions, using mindfulness to bring our attention into the here and now.
  • Celebration: noticing what feels good, what we already enjoy; communicating and amplifying that.
  • Physicality: becoming more comfortable in our bodies, more able to tune in to our senses, more physically present. Also consciously raising our physical sexual energy.
  • Healing: identifying and processing negative beliefs around sexuality, developing the ability to let go of painful past experiences.
  • Relating: listening from the heart, learning to ask for what we want, developing the skill of honest, engaging and non-violent communication.

Our work provides a safe, enjoyable space to explore themes of sexuality, relationship and intimacy amoung women. We use talking, experiential exercises and mindfulness practices to move towards greater self acceptance and more joy.  Boundaries are fully respected at all times and the courses do not involve sexual contact. All ages and orientations are welcome.

Some comments from previous participants:

"The group felt very safe, well facilitated and like a space of equals where every woman contributed"

"I feel much better about myself sexually, more alive, more accepting of my age and my changing body"

Polly McLean holds certificates in psychosexual health and group analysis. After some difficult sexual experiences with both men and women, she became a keen student of various approaches to improving sexual enjoyment and security. She developed these groups in order to share what she has learnt and finds them a fantastic way to help women explore their sexuality in a productive and enjoyable environment. Polly is also a literary translator (from French), organises arts and personal development events at Grove House and runs a psychosexual health process group in London. Rose McAfee has been practicing reflexology and massage for 13 years, and currently works as a personal assistant to fund her integrative psychotherapy training at the Minster Centre. She also volunteers at the Women’s Service, Oxford and at Maytree, a sanctuary for people in suicidal crisis, London. A few years ago she developed a mindfulness practice that was profoundly healing for her. She now uses this experience to bring mindfulness practice into our sexuality groups. Rose is committed to helping all women explore and express themselves, and their sexuality, in whatever way feels right for them.

Polly & Rose have been running these groups since 2008. They are a couple and got engaged in December 2009. They are passionate about creating groups that are accessible and relevant to women of all orientations and to both single women and those in relationship.
